Sony TC-152SD Repair Part 2
The Sony TC-152SD dc-dc converter is a special electronic circuit, which generates regulated ±24 V, and +9 V, rails from a single +6 V DC rail. It consists of a high frequency oscillator circuit, which drives a pulse transformer to boost the voltage. Only the +24 V rail had stopped working, hence it was a simple job of building another circuit that produced +24 V DC. If your dc-dc converter is completely non-functional, then I have another article, which shows how to rebuild a completely new one using readily available parts.
Pinout
The pin marked with a red dot receives +6 V DC, and the pin nearby is ground. At the other end of the module, the outputs are +24 V, +9 V, and -24 V respectively.
In order to remove the printed circuit board from inside the metal case, the base plate requires desoldering, by removing the solder from the edges. It was not just a case of repairing the circuit but also of preserving the module and keeping it in its original condition as the owner had requested. At Vis Labs, I keep all the necessary tools for just such work.
