HDRW720 Demo Mode

The demo mode (or demonstration mode), also known as "Trade Mode", can be disabled on the HDRW720 by following the instructions shown in the extract below. Note, if the unit has suffered electronics failure, then it may not be possible to disable the demo mode. The HDRW720/05 has a strange firmware in that when the VAD804/01 DVD ROM Drive fails, its firmware code reverts to DEMO mode. This is where the display scrolls messages regarding its features and lights up the various front panel buttons. In the event of an electronics failure, and the unit stuck in demo mode, you may have to take it to a qualified electronic engineer for repair.

Disabling Trade Mode

When the recorder is in trade mode, the front buttons will not have any effect, and they cannot control the unit. To switch the trade mode ON or OFF, or in other words to toggle between the two states, a remote control is required. One has to depress a pair of buttons and simultaneously plug the unit into the mains.

  1. Unplug the unit from the mains
  2. Depress <STOP> and <OPEN/CLOSE> buttons simultaneously and hold
  3. Simultaneously, plug the unit into the mains
