Samsung DVD-E232 CD Transport Mechanism
Whilst impressive looking, these CD transport mechanisms are cheap and the electromechanical components, as well as the laser, can fail after a few years of use.
This particular mechanism seems to have a better design than the others that I have seen in the past. This one uses a brushless motor to drive the CD spindle, and consequently has a better reliability.
Here is a photograph of the CD transport mechanism outside of its case. This one had Pizza inside it and had to have its lens cleaned.
If you are buying one of these players on the second hand market, perhaps from an eBay auction, the thing to look out for is wear. Sometimes the owner may have used it continuously for many years before selling it. Sometimes sellers are very crafty, and as soon as their player starts to skip tracks, they will sell it in an auction. The questions to ask are; does it skip tracks? Does it recognise CDs and DVDs?
