Removing the Keyboard Panel

In order to gain access to the scanner glass for cleaning, the keyboard panel needs removing. HP has kindly provided a hieroglyph drawing directing how to remove the keyboard panel; however, my Egyptian is not very good.
I had three very qualified engineers look at it, one worked for NASA, another was an aviation engineer with 23 years experience of repairing jet engines, and they all gave up after ten minutes.

What would Indiana Jones do I thought. Sometimes the simple approach is the best. I used a small screwdriver and gently pushed vertically down in the square hole as shown. It only needs a small amount of force. Then simultaneously slide the top panel forward as shown by the other arrow.

As you can see, the screwdriver in the square hole pushed down this locking tab. I must remember to get a book from the library about Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Simply place the whole panel to the side as shown and note which way the ribbon cables are facing. One cable is long and another is short so it is not possible to mix them up. In addition, there are no twists in the cable when fitting the panel back to its original position.

Gently pull this ribbon cable out from the PCB socket.

This ribbon cable will also require removing.

This shows the manufacturing information stamped onto the plastic.
