Removing the HP PSC Scanner Glass

In order to clean the scanner glass, there are screws that will need removing to gain access to the scanner assembly. There are five "Torx" screws and therefore an appropriate screwdriver will be required. If you do not have one, then you can get a set on eBay very cheaply.

Screw Holes

There are four screws at each of the corners and one screw near the hinge at the top lid, as shown in the picture.

Torx Screws

Carefully store away the screws somewhere safe.

ribbon Cable

This ribbon cable will need removing as well. Note the orientation so that you can replace it exactly when required.

Sled - Scanner Bed

Here is the optical sled or scanner bed as some call it. It contains the optical sensor and a CCFL tube.

The squeaky wheel that got the grease!

One side of the sled rolls on a sad-looking squeaky wheel, while the other end attaches to the tractor belt driven by a motor. This squeaky wheel needs the grease...

CCFL Tube

This CCFL tube produces the light source for the optical sensor in the scanner.

Mitsume Motor

This Mitsumi motor positions the optical sensor sled.

There are no micro switches, or any sensors to convey the home position for the sled.
