Repairing the HP PSC All In One Printer

HP PSC 2510

The PSC 2510 is a very well engineered consumer electronics product. Generally, the whole HP PSC range is a good and reliable line of production, and these printers are almost thoroughbred workhorses. The default print quality on this HP printer is superb, there is also an option to use the high quality photo printing ink cartridge (HP58), however I have used that only once and the images were crisp and clear. The standard tri-coloured cartridge (HP57) is more than enough for most applications though.

The large Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is clear and much better than that on the old PSC 2110. This printer has wireless 802.11b connectivity, which means that it can be stored away in a corner or cupboard, and the whole family may print to it. The print speed is adequate for home use; however, should you buy it for your small business it will be fine as long as you are not planning on high volume printing, although I have seen these perform well for that as well.

The modern HP printers are a huge leap in advancement, and perhaps it is just as well that these printers develop faults because it is an excellent excuse to go out and buy a new one!

Drivers

HP PSC 2510

On the down side, the "HP Director Software" is a little bloated, and once it begins the installation; there is no option to select only the components you want. It generally installs everything including the kitchen sink. As an IT professional, I managed to isolate the main drivers for the printer and scanner functions and save those on a floppy disk. On a new PC, I then install just those drivers and nothing else.

The scanner driver is compatible with TWAIN and Microsoft's Imaging software that is pre installed as a standard with operating systems. This means that you can use the scanner without installing everything on the HP Printer Driver CD.

Wireless Printing Configuration

Wireless Configuration

The wireless configuration is very easy with these menu controls and large LCD display. The pairing of equipment is just a few clicks of the buttons to provide authorisation.
