40 Pin DIP IC Socket

This is a 40-pin dual in-line package (DIP) socket in a turned pin format. The dimensions are usually 50.67 mm × 17.78 mm. A width of 17.78 mm indicates the wide format, which is the most used in the electronics industry. The pin spacing (pitch) is 2.54 mm, and the contact material is usually phosphor bronze.
The 40-pin format for processors became a standard due to the extreme popularity of the Z80, Intel 8051, and ATmega32 processors, and you can readily get a universal ZIF IC socket, which is extremely useful for developers. These machine-tooled sockets have many functions and are useful when building a Z80 based computer project, or ATMega32 AVR microcontroller circuit, or when using any other 40 pin processor.
