PLCC Socket Through-hole

Here is a through-hole PLCC socket. The through-hole type is extremely useful if you were mounting it on prototyping board because the leads fit perfectly.
The last time I used this was in 2000 when building a Z80 computer board for a Chinese firm. These sockets usually hold the firmware memory chips, and you need a special tool for their removal and insertion. An embedded system often has two such sockets to hold the chips.

The 44-pin version is widely used in avionics, and computer systems.
