More or Less

Kenneth More

More or Less is the wonderful autobiography by the late Kenneth More. This book covers his life up to 1978, and includes background information about his acting career. It also conveys his style of clear English speech. He had a very nice upper-class accent and his speech was always wonderfully correct at all times. If you grew up watching his films then you will recognise it straight away.

This book is very honest and open and includes the full spectrum of difficulties and challenges he faced. He largely writes with wit and humour in this book. Consequently, he was someone who looked on the bright side of life even when facing difficulties.

Kenneth More

Kenneth More was born Sunday 20th September 1914 in Buckinghamshire, England. He had an older Sister, Kate, who was 18 months older. His father Gilbert was a pilot in the Royal Naval Air Service. He had an Engineering Degree from King's College London.

Kenneth became a very successful English film actor who made a string of successful movie hits. He won a BAFTA in 1954. He received a CBE, Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his excellent career and life achievement.

One of his best films is the 1954 film Reach for the Sky, based on the true story of Captain Douglas Bader, an RAF fighter Ace. This film won a BAFTA award for the best British film in 1956.

In this book, he explains why he decided to pass the leading part in the film The World of Suzy Wong, for the film Reach for the Sky (p. 228). He expresses regret for the lack of self-confidence and not being bolder and choosing to do both films.

He was a man who loved life, married three times, and died young at the age of 67 due to Parkinson's disease. He is however immortalised through his films and the excellent work he has done helping many people who will always remember him.

This is a great book and a must read for anyone aspiring to become an actor, hence it received the Peter Vis seal of approval. :-)
