TL-WPA4220 Setup Configuration

The TL-WPA4220 (also known as AV500) is the Wi-Fi transmitter/receiver part of the TL-WPA4220KIT package. You install this part in the room where you need the broadband Wi-Fi signal and it simply plugs into an electrical mains socket.
To configure the TL-WPA4220, you need to install the management utility that comes in the accompanying CD, or download the tpPLC utility from the manufacturer’s site. The CD version did not install in my Windows 10 machine and would stop when the progress bar reached half way, however, the latest downloaded version installed fine.

In my case, I ran the management utility from a computer that had a connection to my main broadband router, which was a TalkTalk one manufactured by Huawei.

I also discovered a shortcut method of setting up the TL-WPA4220 without installing any utilities. This can be done from a computer that has a connection to the main broadband router, and providing the TL-PA4010 and TL-WPA4220 are installed and paired correctly, simply type the IP address 192.168.1.254 in your browser address bar and that should take you to the configuration setup page as shown above. If everything is correct, then you should be prompted to enter the username and password, which are both "admin" in lowercase.
Setting up Hotspot Name

To change the name of the Wi-Fi hotspot, you go into the "Wireless Settings" page and change the "SSID" parameter. The name you choose here will be the name that the hotspot will broadcast. You then look for this name in your mobile phone or laptop when you need to connect to the hotspot.
Setting up Hotspot Password

As you can see, this is the configuration page where you can setup a new wireless password for the TL-WPA4220 device. You reach this page through the "Wireless Security" menu, and then you need to change the field "PSK Password". This is the password you will then use in your mobile phone and laptop to access the Wi-Fi hotspot.
