TL-WPA4220KIT

The TL-WPA4220KIT is a starter kit, which consists of TL-PA4010 and TL-WPA4220 units. They are part of the Powerline Extender series and capable of speeds up to 500 Mbps over an electrical power line. This page shows the box contents and some basic information about how they work.

Powerline extenders are much better than Wi-Fi repeaters because they are able to get the broadband signal through to difficult areas by piggybacking it over the mains electrical cabling. If your building had thick internal masonry walls that was blocking any Wi-Fi signal, then this type of extender will get the signal through to the other side of the wall by using the buildings electrical cabling instead.

Box Info

Powerline adapters work by relaying the broadband signal through the buildings electrical wiring. Most buildings usually have electrical mains sockets in every room, and providing it is part of the same electrical system, then those rooms are capable of receiving a broadband signal. The kit consists of two devices, where one device TL-PA4010 connects to your main broadband router with the supplied wire, and it relays the broadband signal to the mains cabling. The other device is the TL-WPA4220, which is installed in the room where you need the broadband signal. It relays the signal from the mains wire to the computer/mobile that needs broadband.

I had a part of the house that for some reason was a dead zone where the Wi-Fi signal could not reach. I tried all sorts of Wi-Fi repeaters with aerials but nothing worked and the signal just would not get through. I was about to give up when I came across the powerline extender, which uses the mains electrical wiring to get the signal through to dead zones. The box indicates a range of 300-metres, which is more than enough for me. The starter kit worked very well for me and it was simple to setup and install.
