gfx3.hotmail.com

This error occurs when trying to access the email after a successful login. After selecting the "In Box", the page attempts to load for a minute, then fails, and returns to the previous page. Whilst loading, the bottom left-hand corner displays that it is trying to connect to the gfx.hotmail.com server, but for some reason not being able to.

Other parts of the Hotmail service will work fine, such as profile and other settings; it just will not allow access to the email capability.

Cause: There could be many reasons why this happens. The most obvious one is that there may be maintenance on the remote server. Alternatively, perhaps the connection to the server has been lost. There is also the possibility that your account may be open from another location. With the recent changes in the law, "Big Brother" can access any account anytime from anywhere in the world and read their mail.

Solution

The problem usually goes away after 10 to 20 minutes, after which everything will continue operating normally. In case your account has been hacked, it may be a good idea to make sure your anti-virus is up to date and operating, and your computer is clean of virus. Apart from the basics there is nothing else you can do since the issue is usually on the remote server end.

When you gain access to your account, it is also probably a good idea to change the password on a regular basis.

All email systems rely on people, which is where the weak link usually is. If you have a published email address for the public to contact with you with, then it may be a good idea to keep private non-published accounts as well.
