The dynamic link library MSVCR90.DLL could not be found

The message generated by soffice.exe was "Unable to locate DLL. The dynamic link library MSVCR90.dll could not be found in the specified path c:\..." The message occurs after installing the software "OpenOffice" and trying to run it.

Search for the File

The MSVCR90.dll is a file used by many different programs. Use the "search for files or folders" tool in windows to find it. The file may exist in the following locations.

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\share\prereg\bundled\presentation-minimizer.oxt

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\share\prereg\bundled\presentation-screen.oxt

The presentation-minimizer.oxt and presentation-screen.oxt are folders with an extension ".oxt".

Solved

Simply copy the MSVCR90.dll file from that folder to the following location.

WINNT\system32

Alternatively, copy it to the system32 folder. The problem resolves after rebooting and restarting. If you received this error message from any other application, then the solution might be the same. I expect that there will be many applications using this particular file.
