Olympia Portable Typewriter Keyboard

The Olympia Traveller de Luxe S has a lovely basic keyboard with all the main keys one would expect in a full-sized typewriter. It has keys to print fractions such as ½, tabulations, and accents.

Paper Release Lever

Paper Release Lever

The correct way to remove the paper is to use the paper release lever. This is also useful for adjusting the paper to align it straight. Many people simply pull the paper out and the roller makes a "zip" noise, which is incorrect.

Ribbon Control Lever

Ribbon Control Lever

This lever allowed one to choose a colour for the font. You could have black, red, and clear. The clear was for cutting stencils.

The typewriter used only the top half of the black portion, and only the top half of the red portion. Hence, once one-half wears out, you turn it over to use the other half.

Mechanical Shift Lock

Mechanical Shift Lock

To type in capital letters, you had to press the shift key; however, there is also a lock, which will retain the shift operation.

Bell

Typewriter Bell

The typewriter also had a bell to warn when the carriage was reaching the end. You could then decide whether the word was going to fit, and whether to split it with a hyphen.

Platen Knob

Platen Knob

When inserting paper, use the platen knobs on both sides of the carriage.
