Sony MDR-ZX310 Repair Drivers

Driver

The MDR-ZX310 drivers use CCAW coils, which are sensitive and can burn out if overpowered. Unfortunately, replacement drivers are expensive, and therefore repairs very costly. I was lucky find a cheap pair of headphones where one side had burnt; hence, I was able to take it apart to see the construction. My advice would be never to use high volumes that can damage the coils and your hearing.

Hole in the magnet

In this design, the magnet has a hole, which presumably would equalise the pressure inside the diaphragm with that outside, thereby allowing it to vibrate more freely.
