Mick Hucknall is without a doubt the greatest singer, writer, and musician of this century and this Simply Red Greatest Hits CD album covers all his hits up to 1996. It has the following songs, Holding Back the Years, Money’s Too Tight to Mention, The Right Thing, It’s Only Love, A New Flame, You’ve Got It, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Stars, Something Got Me Started, Thrill Me, Your Mirror, For Your Babies, So Beautiful, Angel, and Fairground. This CD comes with a glossy little booklet with additional pictures and lyrics.

For the production of this CD, some of the musicians were, Ian Kirkham, Fritz McIntyre, Heitor Pereira, Tim Kellett, Chris Joyce, Gota Yashiki, Shaun Ward, Tony Bowers, Andy Wright, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Steven Lewinson, Bootsy Collins, Lenny Castro, and Sylvan Richardson. The voices were by, Dee Johnson, Sarah Brown, Stephanie Spruell, and Janette Sewell.

Review

As a blogger, money is always too tight to mention, and I am always seeing my bank manager for a loan extension. I just hope I do not turn into that old man over the hill before I see any. I bought this CD because like most people, I remembered the first two hit songs, and thinking how closely the lyrics applied to me, however, I suppose money has a hold on everyone these days. I was pleasantly surprised as it also has some of my other favourites like Star that I had forgotten about. However, I bought it for that wonderful song, Holding Back the Years, which Mick wrote and comes from the Picture Book album. I had that on cassette, which was wearing out from all the use, hence this CD will last a long time. The supplied book with lyrics was very helpful, as I wanted to confirm the words mater and pater, which of course mean mother and father respectfully. I love this song, because when you reach a certain age, you realise that it is all futile. I realised that I wasted all my tears... And nothing in this place has the chance to be good, because nothing ever can... In this place, you can lose without making any mistakes, hence, like many others, I find that this song encapsulates my reality very well.

In this CD album, you get some wonderful songs with meaningful lyrics, and it does not get any better than that, hence I would recommend it.

The CD is usually for sale at auction sites and available new and pre-used. The price can vary a lot; however, with money having a hold on me, I managed to get one at a highly discounted rate, which was good value.
