The fx-7700GB (also, fx-7700GBUS, also written as fx-7700GB US) were power graphic scientific calculators manufactured by the Casio Corporation. The fx-7700GBUS was manufactured in China and available in the UK in approximately 1994. It had serial (RS-232C) communications facility that enabled it to connect to another calculator that had the Program-Link facility via the SB-60 wire, or to a PC computer via FA-100 interface unit. It was a programmable calculator allowing a maximum of 4164 program steps and up to 548 memories. It had high-contrast liquid crystal display (LCD) with ability to display 10-digit mantissa plus 2-digit exponent. The size of the LCD was 16-characters by 8-lines (96-dots × 64-dots). For the power supply, it required three CR2032 lithium batteries for general operation providing 100-hours of use. It also required an additional CR2032 battery for stored memory protection, which gave 1-year of protection. This was a pocket size unit measuring 15.6 mm × 81 mm × 172.5 mm, and mass 185.5 g including batteries.

Based on the HD62076A02 Microcomputer Unit by the Hitachi Corporation, it was a marvel of its time that many people would remember using it in college and higher learning. It was fast with a decent number of built-in functions that are still useful today. It had a high contrast LCD that was clear to read and nice wide key spacing allowing easy typing on the keyboard. Its electronic engineering involved a plethora of integrated circuits from Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi, Corporations that all operated on just three CR2032 batteries consuming 0.22-watts. If you had one of these in college then you might also remember that programming it was very easy with BASIC-type syntax.

Price/eBay

The fx-7700GB is often for sale on eBay and the price can vary a lot depending upon the condition. A unit on its own in good working order can sell for twenty pounds or thereabouts. However, an unused unit in mint condition together with the original box and packaging can sell for well over seventy pounds on the right day, and sometimes-possible more.

Many of these units would have been in the hands of children, and consequently they will have scratches, signs of damage, and even non-functional. Those ones would not be worth much.
