30 in 1 Electronic Project Lab Kit Review

The 30 in 1 Electronic Lab (MX-903) is a delightful little kit that is ideal for anyone interested in making crystal radios, and there is an option to make a single transistor radio as well. It will save you great time and money from having to find all the components individually. I built the "Invisible Power Radio", which is the main crystal radio project, and the radio produced a strong signal even though the aerial was ceiling high. With two transistors, there is plenty of scope for experimenting with your own amplifier circuit designs. Although the manual shows 30 projects, I was able to make many more circuits that were of my own designs.

I was also impressed with "The Radio Station" project, which allows one to transmit audio on the AM band. The signal carries a few feet and is strong and clear. A permanent build with a long hidden aerial could make a good bug!

Cost / eBay

I bought this second-hand and paid ten pounds for it on eBay. Most of the cut jumper wires were present, and overall it was in good condition. The only one fault I found was with the crystal earpiece, which was making intermittent connections. This is a common problem related to the bonding of a wire on the piezoelectric surface with glue. My crystal earpiece article has more information about this. Replacement earpieces are readily available on eBay, and I simply replaced mine. If you are into building crystal radios, then this has all the parts required to build one, and it usually works out cheaper than buying all of them individually.
