Argos Value Range DVD Player Inside View

I was interested to see the design and build quality of an Argos Value Range DVD Player, and was impressed to find that you get all this for as little as £4.00.

There is a small switched-mode power supply circuit to generate the voltage rails for the digital chips. The decoder board is even smaller and houses the SCART socket as well.

The CD transport mechanism appears to be a slim line version. These mechanisms are mass-manufactured in China, and used on many brands of DVD players. They are expensive to replace, so if you have a high-end machine that uses exactly this, then chances are that you will buy this and use it for spare parts.

This is the decoder board, with the famous Zoran processor.
