Canon AV-1 Battery

It is important to understand that the Canon AV-1 will not operate without a battery or sufficient power. In this case, the camera will appear as if it is not working and appear as if the shutter was jammed, and the winder stuck.

It requires a special 6 V battery, which fits into the compartment at the front of the camera. When inserting the battery, the positive side connects to the top terminal in the battery compartment.

The battery type can be lithium, alkaline manganese, or silver oxide. Lithium tends to last longer but is a little more expensive than the other two. The PX28L, PX28, A544, 544, 4LR44, 4SR44 are compatible according to the user manual.

The 4LR44 is essentially four LR44 button cells that join in series to make a single 6 V cell. I did not have the special battery however; I did have some LR44 cells, so I simply installed four of those in the battery compartment. I also had four AG13 cells, and four SR44 cells, which would have worked just as well.

I managed to find the cheapest deal on eBay, which was five batteries for £1.50, which included postage. They had a huge number of alternative compatible batteries that seemed excellent value.
