Canon T50 Repair and Troubleshooting

Lower Winding Base Plate

The Canon T50 is very complicated to repair and troubleshoot, and ideally, you should take it to your camera repair shop. There are many firms on the Internet that can repair cameras. However, this is an old camera and it may not be cost-effective, in which case, you may decide to see for yourself.

Opening the base section reveals a printed circuit board on one side, and the lower winding plate on the other side. There are some obvious screws, which secure this plate, and if you remove them, then underneath you will see a cogwheel mechanism. Make sure this mechanism is not jammed. It should have some lubrication; however, it may have hardened over the years.

If the motor is not working, then you may have to take it out, and this involves removing all the cogwheels and the base section underneath to gain access to the motor. In the following page of this article, I show how to remove the motor.

On this particular camera, the motor appeared dead, therefore I decided to take it out to test it further. Once it is out, I can check its torque to determine if it is sufficient.
