Sony TC-153SD Tape Transport

This part of the TC-153SD usually collects dust and requires cleaning. Overall, it is a reliable mechanism however; the auto-stop function can stop working over time. Usually, the small white plastic cogwheel around the capstan spindle can develop a crack. This will result in the cogwheel spinning freely, without bonding to the capstan spindle.

Pushbutton Assembly

The pushbutton assembly is reliable and usually works fine after all these years.

Reel Spindle Assembly

The rubber surfaces on the spool winding wheels, known as reel spindle assembly, can require replacing. I managed to find some generic ones that were the correct size.
