Sony CDP-C500M Chucking Arm Height Adjustment

Chucking Arm

Sometimes the CD player will not work because the CD tries to spin, but there is a scraping noise and the CD eventually fails to spin correctly giving up. This is usually an indication that the chucking arm may require adjusting. This CD player had been in the hands of UK "knob-head" specialists and therefore the adjustment was very wrong.

Before you realise it, you will be humming to such tunes as, Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo? Why do I seem to remember that the Chattanooga Choo Choo is on track twenty-nine? Correct Chucking

Chucking Arm Adjustments

As you can see, the chucking arm holds the chucking yoke. The red arrow indicates the gap between the underside of the chucking yoke and the upper surface of the plastic arm. If this gap is too small, then you will hear scraping noises and the CD will try to spin but fail after a while.

The blue arrows indicate a gap between the top surface of the CD and the underside of the chucking arm. If this gap is too small, then there will be scraping noises with the CD and it will fail to spin.

The trick to the adjustment is to make sure that both sides have equal amount of gap to prevent scraping.
