Sony TC-158SD PCB

PCB

The Sony TC-158SD is a single printed circuit board (PCB) construction, which is a change from the previous versions that had two separate boards for the audio circuitry, and power supply. It also had bundles of wires connecting one board with the other, which would have required manual labour for soldering.

Compared to previous versions, this board is much larger, because they are not using any integrated circuits to reduce the component count. However, the benefit is lower transistor count and power consumption.

It appears that they used a solder flow to make the main board, and then manual labourers for soldering the wires for assembly. However, it is still a very complex task, increasing the final cost.
