Avometer Back Cover Spray Painting

Avometer Back Cover Repair

Majority of used Avometers will have scratches and dents to the back cover, and it is probably better to leave it in its original condition, however in this case, it was so bad that I decided to change it completely. Although the front half of the meter was a Mark 2, the back cover came from a Mark 1, and therefore I decided to experiment and see how it would look with a lovely glossy yellow.

Original Back Cover

Originally, the back cover had deep scratches, and sticky tar-like substance stuck to it, therefore I decided to sand it down to remove the scratches. After the final wet sanding with water and fine sandpaper, it received a coat of primer and then a couple of coats of yellow glossy paint.

Refurbished Back Cover

The metal information plate also had scratches and the printing no longer legible, so I decided to sand that as well and spray it with a white paint. You can print whatever you wish on clear acetate and it will show against the white background.

Replacement Feet

The feet came out of a recycled amplifier. I think larger feet look much nicer, and it makes the dial easier to read when the meter is placed on its back.
