Palm Vx Cracked LCD Glass

The Palm Vx Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel consists of five layers. There is a digitiser layer, glass layer, icon drawing layer, metal plate, and finally the LCD. Replacement display panels are hard to source, however, sometimes it is possible to repair a cracked panel if the damage is not to the LCD layer. Usually, there is a glass layer at the top, and the LCD layer is behind a metal plate, and occasionally, it is the upper glass layer that cracks and not the LCD underneath it. In this type of damage repair is possible providing you find a replacement glass from a local hardware store.

The Metal Plate

As you can see, there is a layer consisting of a metal plate, and the glass goes above this layer, whilst the LCD is below the metal plate.

Replacing the LCD Panel

Replacing the entire LCD panel is possible providing you can find a replacement panel. The panel connects to the main PCB through these ribbon cables, which conveniently fit into their sockets on the PCB.
